Nature can breathe out – energy comes from the forest
In the spring of 2007, Söderenergi decided to build Sweden's largest biofuel-driven combi power and heating plant. One condition was that the supply of energy must come from the forest, which required agreements with several of the country's largest suppliers of biofuel. Large flows of forest fuel are needed to ensure that the Igelsta plant is maximising its deliveries to companies and households in Södertälje, Botkyrka and Huddinge. A part of the solution was to organise rail transports from the forest to a terminal close to Södertälje. The tracks led to Nykvarn, where the municipality had already built an industrial connection. Talks were also initiated with Green Cargo.
"We were looking for a partner with financial muscle that could take a bird's eye approach to transport and the terminal. Green Cargo presented a good proposal and we are nothing but satisfied with our decision to make Green Cargo our turn-key supplier. We believe there is considerable potential to expand the co-operation," says Jan Steinle, Fuel Manager at Söderenergi AB.
